REGULATING PSYCHOLOGISTS IN NOVA SCOTIA SINCE 1980

I am a registered psychologist in NS and I’m getting married next month. I wanted to inquire about issues around changing my last name.

I have heard that some people change their last name legally and socially, but continue using their maiden name professionally (since my previous publications etc. are associated with this name). I wanted to check in about the ethics of this for psychologists, as this will be important in my decision-making process. Any information you could provide would be much appreciated!

To answer your question, the decision to keep your maiden name or to change it is a personal one to each individual. NSRP does not have jurisdiction on your decision with regard to personal use. However, if you are changing your name professionally, please provide NSRP with an updated Photo ID that reflects the name change, as we will need to make a change in the Register of NSRP in this case.

The answer is yes. thanks. She could continue to use her maiden name professionally.
