Listing of Relevant Fees

Note: The Nova Scotia Board of Examiners in Psychology (NSBEP) transitioned to the Nova Scotia Regulator of Psychology (NSRP) under the Regulated Health Professions Act on November 24, 2025. All fees remain unchanged.
 

NSRP FEES

Annual Licensing Fees

Regular Annual Fee

  • The Licensing Year runs from July 1st to June 30th of each calendar year
  • Psychologists on the practising register or conditional register: Regular Annual Fee – $805.00
  • Academic Rate (practising register, subject to annual Academic Practice Declaration): $100
  • The full annual fee is payable unless licensing commences between January 1st and June 30th.  The pro-rated fees are listed below:
  • January – June: $402.50
  • February – June: $335.40
  • March – June: $268.32
  • April – June: $201.24
  • May – June: $134.16
  • June: $67.08

Refund policy

Refunds of the annual licensing fee are not normally issued. The Registrar may approve a pro-rated refund only if the licence is surrendered or lapses within the first six months of the licensing year and in exceptional circumstances (e.g., parental or medical leave). See full policy for details.

Renewal Notices are emailed in May of each year.

Reinstatement Fees

  • Voluntary lapse (with prior written notification to NSRP): annual licensing fee + $50.00 administrative fee
  • Suspension (non-renewal or non-payment without prior written notification): double the annual licensing fee (total amount required for reinstatement)

Professional Liability Insurance Requirements*

NSBEP requires all registrants to maintain professional liability insurance in an amount not less than $1,000,000.00 per occurrence. Applicants have 30 days to provide proof of adequate insurance following their placement on either the the practising register or conditional register. Courtesy Register

  • 20 days or less – No fee
  • 21 – 40 days – $200

  • During first 12 months of registration with NSBEP – $1000.00
  • Following 12 or more months of registration with NSBEP – $40.00

Failure to Notify regarding Change of Address
Registrants must notify the NSBEP if there is a change in their registration information. A registrant is expected to update NSBEP with new information within 30 days of a change. There is a $100 processing fee if information sent to the registrant is returned due to a failure to notify. Please note that both a legal address and email address is require

Oral Exam / Transfer Exam – $500

Supervision is required of all psychologists on the Conditional Register, not just Candidate Psychologists. Psychologists licensed outside of Canada who are approved for a transfer must complete a minimum period of 6 months of supervision. In some cases, NSRP can require other Registrants to complete a period of supervision/mentorship under special circumstances, typically consisting of a minimum of 2 hours each month (though specifics would be set by NSRP).

Most Supervisors do not request payment for providing supervision. If payment is requested, this may be on a sliding scale but is often at the usual private practice hourly session fee.

Reinstatement Fee (change from withdrawn or inactive status) – $50

Copy of Registration Certificate Fee (no charge for initial certificate) – $30
