I received this call for nominations for the 2020 elections and, in reading the criteria, had a question I hoped you could help me with. I am interested in becoming involved with the NSBEP board but I am a transfer registrant and only received my registration in October 2019. I was registered with the College of Alberta Psychologists before that, and in good standing, since 2011. I’m curious if registration in another jurisdiction is considered equivalent in meeting criteria (a).

To answer your question, the criteria for Nominees are in regards to NSRP registration. This will give the Nominee the breadth of experience and knowledge required to become a NSRP Member.

However, you can certainly volunteer in other ways for example, after you are registered to two years you can become a Candidate Volunteer. Which will help the Candidate, enhance your resume for nomination as well as give you the sense of accomplishment when a Candidate you have supervised becomes a registrant.

To answer your question, the criteria for Nominees in regards to 5 years on the Register of Psychologists would recognize 5 years of experience if one were fully registered as a psychologist in NS and also held prior, full registration in another jurisdiction, which taken together met the required timeframe overall. You would indeed meet criterion (a).
