I am hoping to have two supervisors during my year of supervised practice. At the moment, I have 1 and I am hoping to add an additional supervisor. My hope is that I will simply have two sets of forms, one for each supervisor. They will be supervising entirely different cases, so there is no obvious need for them to communicate, although I am happy to fill out a form allowing them to do so.

Please let me know if there are additional requirements for me to set this up. I am hoping to have the second supervisor in place before January.

I have two other small questions:1) I was told that I should not use “Dr.” and “Ph.D.” with my signature. I want to make sure that’s accurate. In other words, I should not sign as “Dr. last name, Ph.D.” Instead, I should sign, “first name last name, Ph.D.”2) I saw on the FAQ’s that supervisors do not need to sign off on assessment reports while I am a candidate register. I have received conflicting information about that from other psychologists in Nova Scotia, so I wanted to make sure this is the case.

To answer your question, any changes in supervision arrangements must be approved by the NSRP and require the same consent forms. When there is co-supervision, typically supervisors may have some contact with each other throughout supervision, and are able to view the supervision reports of the other. You can provide your consent to them to speak, but NSRP does not feel that you would have to consent for them to be able to correspond, if the NSRP has approved them both as your supervisor.

As for the title you may use, you may use “Dr.” but registrants would not be expected sign using both “Dr.” and “Ph.D.” at the same time. If you would like to sign as Dr. first name last name, followed by Psychologist (Candidate Register) that is fine with the NSRP, or you could use first name last name, Ph.D. followed by Psychologist (Candidate Register).
