REGULATING PSYCHOLOGISTS IN NOVA SCOTIA SINCE 1980

I am a clinical counsellor on PEI. I completed my MA in Counselling Psychology (professional/internship) program at McGill in June 2020. I am hoping to apply to NSBEP as a provisional psychologist, but noticed that your website indicates that degrees in counselling are normally not considered.

I have several friends who graduated from the same program in previous years and have been able to register with NSBEP. I am wondering if this has since changed or if our program is still accepted. Further, I am currently living on PEI, but am planning to move to NS in the fall. I am wondering if it is possible to begin the application process now as I am aware it takes quite some time?

For part 1, I would say: You could apply with this degree and the fact that the program is in Counselling Psychology does not automatically disqualify one. However, every degree is assessed on a case-by-case basis according to the NSRP’s Criteria for Acceptable Degrees in Psychology. And in order to be acceptable, the graduate degree must meet the academic requirements noted in the document: https://www.ns-rp.ca/downloads/Registration_Requirements_Regular.pdf
