REGULATING PSYCHOLOGISTS IN NOVA SCOTIA SINCE 1980

I am a student completing a Bachelor with Honnors in Psychology at Saint Mary’s in Halifax. I am considering the next steps for a career in Clinical Psychology.

I see that the NSBEP is trying to shift the minimum requirement to a PhD or Doctoral Studies and eventually the Masters level will not be sufficient anymore to be registrered with the Board.

Could you tell me when that shift is set for? Or do you know approximately how many years before this change will be made? Any recommandations for students at this time regarding the upcoming chages? Any information you can provide would be very helpful

A change in NSRP’s entry level criteria requires approval by the provincial government. Currently a move to doctoral registration remains a long term intention of the NSRP. However, the NSRP currently has no open requests to government for changes to its entry level requirements. As noted, if a request were submitted, the government would first have to approve the change. If the request were approved, it is then estimated to take anywhere between 5 – 10 years before the legislative changes would be made and implemented to effect entry level requirements.
