I have a question about this years registration renewal – I am actually retiring January 4 – I plan to keep my registration open for the time being and as such wondered about fee to submitnI am no longer practicing and will not be renewing my registration as a psychologist for the 2019 year. I understand that the NSBEP requires notice of retirement in writing, and I am asking that the NSBEP accept this email as my notice.

I have contacted Heather Power, Psychologist who is the custodian of my files however have not heard back from her as at this date.

I will contact insurance company BMS to advise them of my retirement.

I had a call from a person who has been seeing an ON psychologist. The patient has since moved to NS and would like to continue to see the psychologist thru skype. I was going to reply that the psychologist would either have to register in NS or barring that apply for a temporary registration until the patient could find a psychologist here in NS. Is there anything I am missing?

You are more than welcome to keep your registration open for the duration of 2019 and can pay the reduced fee of $684.25 up until November 15, 2018. However, you would be free to switch to the Retired Register for January 1, 2019 and this fee is only $100.00. You could complete this process using the online registration option. We trust from your email that you do not intend to practice in 2019 so we have mentioned the retired option.

We wanted to mention that the option of Retired Registration for $100.00 is there, the other is to not renew and withdraw from the registry according to the Psychologist Act.

Your psychologist would have to determine that they deem treatment in your case to be appropriate through video. If they feel this is appropriate, they would need to be registered in Nova Scotia in order to legally provide services to you, since you would be located in Nova Scotia. The psychologist could contact the NSRP to apply for temporary registration with the NSRP if this is something they feel would be appropriate in the circumstances.
