REGULATING PSYCHOLOGISTS IN NOVA SCOTIA SINCE 1980
A

I have reviewed the policy you highlighted for me. I’m hoping I can run through the possible scenarios that might occur in my situation and clarify whether my interpretation of the policy is correct.

My understanding is, I would not be penalized if my supervisor cannot meet with me for a month. I also saw that if a supervisor anticipates not being available for longer than 2 months, I would have to work toward finding another supervisor (at least, that is my interpretation of the policy). I think the worst-case scenario in my specific case is that my supervisor cannot meet with me either in January or in February. Given that I am scheduled to do my Oral Examination in March and ordinarily would not plan to meet with my supervisor that month, am I correct in assuming that for January and February 2021, I will either (a) meet with my supervisor as planned if she is able to make it, or (b) inform the board of the missed meetings due to my supervisor’s family emergencies in either or both January and February? Am I also correct in assuming that in the worst case scenario (where we are unable to meet in both January and February 2021), I would not be penalized for the same and would not need to seek out a new supervisor? Thanks in advance for any helping me apply the policy to my situation – this has been very helpful. I really appreciate the Board’s flexibility in the event of emergencies/unexpected events, and I know the information will bring relief to my supervisor as well.

You are correct that for January and February 2021, you will either (a) meet with your supervisor as planned if she is able to make it, or (b) inform the board of the missed meetings due to your supervisor’s family emergencies in either or both January and February.

In the worst-case scenario (where you are unable to meet in both January and February 2021), you would not be penalized for the same and would not need to seek out a new supervisor.
