I have recently been offered a new position and will be leaving my current role as the only psychologist in an organization. I am aware of, and will be following, standards of practice for client files (hard copies), but I am wondering if you have any advice regarding digital files.
My office computer will likely be used by the psychologist who replaces me, but I cannot be certain. I am wondering if I should dispose of all the digital files I have (.docx and PDF copies of reports), or perhaps copy all files to an external hard drive and wipe the desktop computer in case it is removed from my office for other use.
Your plan sounds like a good approach to be discussed with the custodian of records and to ensure security and appropriate access but also that there are records maintained for any future work with or related to the client. I was unable to find direction to this question via the NSBEP website, so I am writing this e-mail in hopes to gain some clarity.
I am still on the candidate register with a little over 2 years of supervision still needed. I am looking into teaching on a part-time basis in the realm of psychology (e.g., forensic psychology, developmental psychology, intro to psychology, counselling skills, etc.) – would these hours count towards my registry, as long as I am also maintaining my part-time therapy and assessment clients? I would be able to maintain full time clinical hours in December and from April to September, as school would not be in session. Or would engaging in teaching add another year onto my supervision requirements?I have not accepted any role thus far, I wanted to check with the board to see if it would disrupt my candidacy first.
Good to check. Yes they can teach as well, though normally we don’t see a whole lot of registrants doing it during candidacy. You can let her know that she must work at least 20% of time in a clinical position and overall her hours must be full time as she alludes to.
I’m wondering if virtual supervision will be possible for those of us on the Candidate Register this year, starting in September. I’ll be working in the valley, in Kingston, but am hoping to have my supervision with a psychologist in Halifax. Is it acceptable for some of the supervision meetings to be over Zoom/Skype?
During COVID-19, the NSRP has been allowing all supervision to be held virtually. However it will be examining this allowance in future, as restrictions are expected to be lifted over the summer. I was wondering whether you would like us to submit our July/August supervision given that I did the other 4 with my previous superevisor prior to switching supervision, or just submit a larger report at a later date/February. Does the 6-month timeline reset? What would you prefer?
It resets to a new six month period with the new supervisor, since all supervision reports with the old supervisor are required to be submitted when the change in supervisors was approved in the past.
