I am completing the psychology practice form as part of my application andnhave a question for you. My degree is in counselling psychology, however, myninternship and professional trainings (such as continuing education workshops) have all been in clinical psychology and all of my supervision has been under clinical psychologists. I understand that it is very important to practice in the area of psychology in which my degree is in; given my that my supervision, training and internship have been innclinical psychology, would it be appropriate to list 25% clinical psychology and 75% counselling psychology as intended areas of practice?Any guidance would be much appreciated.

The first Master’s program is at the University of Victoria, and it is their Masters of Arts in Counselling Psychology The second Master’s Program is at the University of Toronto (Scarborough Campus) and it is their Masters of Arts in Counselling and Clinical Psychology!

I have an inquiry regarding the transfer of registration from Ontario. I am beginning my year of supervised practice as a Psychologist in Ontario. My partner and I are looking at re-locating to the Halifax area. I am wondering:1.if we re-locate prior to completion of my registration in Ontario, will the time/supervision/experience I have accrued as a supervised practice member be recognized, or will I need to start the process over again?2.If I complete the EPPP in Ontario this year, is there an ‘expiry date’ of this credential if I then seek registration in Halifax? If so, is there any possibility of an extension of the validity of a completed EPPP if the registration process is delayed due to a parental leave?3. Is there an exam based on provincial law that is required for registration in NS (comparable to the JEE we have in Ontario)?

Thank-you for sending me the letter from the board. It is a relief to hear that counseling within the boundaries outlined in the appropriate practice areas is considered within the scope of practice. I wish to seek clarification on the term “school-based counseling”. This could beninterpreted as only those counseling services provided within the physical location of a school. It could also be interpreted to mean school-based issues for which counseling is provided in any location. Could the board please clarify whether counseling by school psychologists within the boundaries outlined in the appropriate practice areas is permitted in private practice settings?

n1-Considering that the job title is FCC Counsellor and that services provided are not restricted to psychologists and I am not introducing myself as a psychologist, is it better or is it required for me to be placed on the Courtesy Registry?2-What happens for employees who are not registered with a Professional Psychological Regulating body? Some colleagues have a Master’s degree in Psychology from a university in Ontario, BC or other province. Any reason preventing them from providing phone crisis intervention and single counselling session to callers from NS?Considering that there are potential callers from any of the 10 provinces and 2 territories, I am trying to ascertain the scope of the requirements and restrictions for that position.

I had call from a gentleman who would not give his name or name of psychologist. This gentleman asked for a copy of his file from the psychologist and the psychologist’s response was I have to talk to the Board. The gentleman said he can get copies of his doctor’s file and psychiatrist files, why not his psychologist’s file.
This gentleman would like to know if he is entitled to his file. If not, he is going to take legal action. I told him he could put in a complaint against this psychologist, he said “I know that, I don’t want to put in a complaint.” He said that he was going to take legal action.
Since he would not give me an email address or phone number, he is calling back at 1pm.
Clients are certainly entitled to receive a copy of their file, just as he noted he could do with other healthcare providers. There may be some items in his file that are restricted (psychological tests) that are subject to laws preventing their disclosure. However, that does not mean that the entire file cannot be provided. […]

Typically, this guide would advise the practitioner what is reasonable to charge their patients for treatment. It would be greatly appreciated if we could obtain a copy of this document should you have one.
NSRP does not set the fees nor define what is reasonable, but APNS has a recommended fee.
I am writing to inquire regarding applying to the candidate register. I have completed my coursework and practicum in Acadia University’s MSc Clinical Psychology program and I have secured a positions pending graduation, as well as a NSBEP supervisor. However, I am in the final stages of completing my thesis. I’m wondering if it is possible to initiate the application process prior to defending my thesis, or do you require that this component is also completed prior to the application being submitted?I am also wondering whether you require NSBEP supervision for all areas of practice. For example, if I intend to practice EMDR (with the relevant certifications) in addition to other modalities, is it necessary to have NSBEP supervision with someone who has expertise in all modalities, or is it sufficient to have a supervisor with expertise in most, but not all modalities, in addition to peer consultation and collegial support in the areas that the supervisor does not practice.
While the NSRP would be amendable to approving a second supervisor to complete a portion of NSRP supervision for this work, it would be acceptable for another psychologist(s) to act as a mentor/consultant on this work.
