I’m writing from Criminal Injuries Counselling with a quick question for you. I hope I am reaching the right email, and if not, hopefully you can direct me to the correct person. We are working on updating our policies and procedures, along with counselling applications. We were wondering how often you require psychologists registered with the Nova Scotia Board of Examiners in Psychology to update their Criminal Record Checks and Child Abuse Registry Checks? We are checking in with the governing bodies to make sure we are aligned with best practice.
NSRP requires a criminal check and child abuse check when an individual submits their initial application for registration. And during the annual registration renewal process, registrants are required to complete a questionnaire which includes a question about whether they had any criminal convictions in the last 3 years.
I am a PhD counselling psychology intern from the University of Alberta, whonis completing my internship at the Edmonton Health Consortium in Edmonton. Inam originally from Nova Scotia but moved here to complete the internship.
Pre-covid, interns were expected to be living in the province in which theynwere practicing/seeing clients, as services were provided in person.
However, as a result of the pandemic, flexibility has been provided tonpsychologists, allowing them to see clients in other provinces viantelehealth services. I am wondering if the same flexibility can be providednto interns? Specifically, would I be able to return to NS and continue tonsee clients in Alberta via telehealth?Part 2)

I am a research coordinator at the IWK Health Centre. My team and I are currently running a study to help support unpaid caregivers of acquired brain injury (ABI) survivors across the province of Nova Scotia. Our study is called Caring Forward, and is funded by the Nova Scotia Department of Health and Wellness. The goal of Caring Forward is to learn more about the experience and challenges of caregivers of ABI survivors, so that we can create new programs and supportive resources for them.
At this point, we are looking for people, organizations and associations, local or provincial, who would be willing to help in our recruitment efforts. Reaching caregivers is hard, so we need all the help we can get!

I am a Registered Counselling Therapist and currently working as a full-time counsellor in Halifax. I graduated from the Master of Education in Counselling program at Acadia University in 2017.
Due to the limited insurance coverage for services provided by counsellors (I am a counsellor), I am thinking to go back school to get either Master or Doctor degree in Psychology. With my understanding, psychology degree is a MUST for being a licensed psychologist in NS. Am I right?I am wondering if I finish my psychology degree, do I have to go through the procedure of practicum under supervision or my clinic practice as a counsellor counts?
To answer your question, yes, all parts of the acceptable psychology degree would need to be completed as part of the program, which would include the practicum. NSRP could not consider practical experience that is not part of the degree itself.
I’m currently in the process of applying to be on the Candidate Register. If I understand correctly, applications are reviewed on a monthly basis? I was wondering if you could tell me when the next meeting will be held to review applications? And is there a deadline for complete documentation to be submitted prior to this review meeting?I’ve completed all degree requirements, including a CPA-accredited internship, for my PhD in Clinical Psychology (Dal) as of August 31st (graduation date: Sept. 29) and have secured a supervisor for my year of supervised practice. I’ve been newly employed by NSHA (psychologist position). Is it permissible to see clients under my supervisor’s supervision until I’m approved to be placed on the Candidate Register? The NSRP has a cut off deadline of 2 weeks prior to NSRP meetings, so that the Registration Subcommittee members can have access and begin their review of files prior to the meeting. In follow-up to the brief phone contact we had earlier today, please find below my consultation with the College of Psychologists of Ontario outlining the proposed structure of the National Expansion of the Bounce back service and the specific question around registration for psychologists providing the proposed consultation function.
Specifically, my query is whether psychologists overseeing a paraprofessional Workforce in Ontario would be able to assume the same function should the Ontario paraprofessional Workforce be engaged in Frontline service with residents of Nova Scotia or whether there would be restrictions on this because of only being licensed in Ontario .
