I was looking at the requirements to become registered in Nova Scotia and I just wanted further clarification. I know ACPRO states that they accept 1 year masters degree and it mentions on your website that you go by their recommendation, however, it also mentions needing 2 year masters degree. Would you be able to clarify this?
NSRP requirements are a master’s degree that is two years in duration.
I’ve seen a list of accredited programs in Atlantic Canada but do you have a list of accredited programs for all of Canada?
Yes and no. The only list that NSRP has for across Canada would be programs that are accredited by the Canadian Psychological Association. Sorry. I am extremely interested in pursuing a career in Psychology here in Nova Scotia and have been reviewing the requirements for this province. I have several questions around how to proceed and what would be the best avenue for an individual like myself to transition into this field of work.
I am from Halifax originally and currently reside in Bedford, Nova Scotia; I am 41 years old and have almost 20 years experience as a Territory Manager across several industries (Medical Device, CPG, Wine & Spirits). I have an undergraduate degree (BSc – Neuroscience) from Bishop’s University and several other pharmaceutical courses in a variety of therapeutic areas.
Through my research of the requirements in NS, I am encountering some road blocks to pursing this Master’s degree and the eligibility to practice in this province. I have a family with 2 small children, which requires me to work full time. To return to school, I would need to do so on a part time basis or as an online program to allow me the flexibility to continue to maintain my career. My problem with the other requirements, those involving a supervisor’s report, is that anyone who supervised my practical work at Boston University is no longer around. Also, the only registered psychologist (Newfoundland) who could comment on my professional work as a psychologist was the Chair of the Department of Educational Psychology at Memorial University when I was an assistant professor and registered psychologist at the university. He still has a LinkedIn page so I assume he is available. Would a reference from him suffice?I have met with the Annapolis Valley school board where I am to work as a school psychologist. Officials there wonder if some supervision by the psychologists already employed by the board would support the registration.

Would you be ok with me adding application to the agenda if the only outstanding document is the Child Abuse Check. I was told that the registrar said at a residency seminar that there is flexibility on something like this. Hi again (sorry!),Can I please confirm something? If my school psychology program did not require a bachelor degree in psychology, am I then not eligible to register with the board no matter what, even if I have a bachelor’s in psychology? If the answer is just flat out no, then I can save myself the time of combing through my transcripts and adding course descriptions and filling out the rest of the registration. Then I can let the school board know I cannot work for them ever, too.
